The Adam Savage You May Not Know

December 20, 2008 11:48 am

I happen to be a big fan of the tv show, Mythbusters.  You will see hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman trying to prove out, though experimentation, popular myths.

In my daily review of DIGG, I came across this interesting presentation from one of the show hosts, Adam Savage.  It shows you interesting side of his personality that you may not find by watching him on his show.  Weighing in at 17 minutes, its a bit long but very compelling to watch.

The Door to Hell

While working my way through the top stories in 24 hours on Digg, I came across this very strange picture. Upon further investigation, it turns out to be a hole in the ground that has been burning for over 35 years. Located in Darvaz, Uzbekistan, this crater was created as a result of a failed Russian gas exploration project in the 1950′s. When the ground caved in, gas began to seep out and eventually caught on fire. This fire has been burning nonstop. For more information and pictures, check out the following links:

Why are cellphones banned on airplanes?

April 8, 2007 12:07 pm

If you’ve flown in an airplane in the last 10 years, you definitely know that the crew don’t want you using or even having your cellphone switched on.

Phones on a Plane

The excuses we’ve heard for this include the fact that the wireless transmitters can cause interference with the aircraft’s avionics. If you’ve ever seen the Discovery Channel’s show, Mythbusters, you would have seen them prove that wireless transmitters do not cause interference with aircraft systems.

So what is the story? Read more to get the scoop as reported by Mike Elgan for Computerworld.
